Life Really Isn’t Fair

I am not going to talk about women issues this week because I need to talk about something that recently happened.

Someone I’ve known since high school, someone my age, someone who was a good guy inside and out died in Iraq early this morning.

When I heard the news I didn’t want to believe it.  I leaned upon a friend’s shoulder to comfort him (they were best friends) as we rushed over to the family’s house.  No one said anything in the car on the way over.  There were a lot of tears and the sound of sobbing that filled the air.

I never thought I’d have to deal with something like this at such a young age.  He was too young to die.  He was proud to be in the army, and he was out there fighting for our freedom.

We spent all morning with his family as they described the two men dressed in military uniforms who walked up to their front door and told them the news.  Their son was gone, and wouldn’t be coming back.

Life really isn’t fair.  Life is cruel to take someone so young out of this world when he had his entire life ahead of him.

This week I am going to post memories of Mark who I considered a close friend, and lost his life July 18, 2011.  Rest in Peace Mark Cofield.  I love you and you will always be in my heart.

  1. I just want to send my condolences. My husband was deployed with this fine young man and I was lucky enough to meet him. He was a joy and smiled the entire time at my home. I pray for his family and hope they find peace in this time. He will be missed.

  2. Mark and my nephew were here over Thanksgiving a year and a half ago. He was a funny young man and we surely enjoyed his company. I was so sad to hear that he had been killed. My nephew uploaded some photos of him on our farm during their trip here on FB. http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000451803272
His family and friend are in my thoughts and prayers during this time.

    • Thank you so much for the pictures. I am trying to make a slideshow for his family, so I definitely appreciate these. Thank you for your comment. I truly do appreciate it.

  3. I had the honor of bieng this young man’s Platoon Sergeant while he was in AIT. He was an outstanding Soldier with unlimited potential. I am deeply saddened at the news of his passing. He will be missed by all that he interacted with. In a world full of followers he was a stand out leader.
